Yes, to work in an education or health and social care setting you will require an enhanced disclosure and barring services (DBS) check prior to work.

If you already have a DBS we will need your permission to check your registered enhanced DBS online before you start work.

You can register for an enhanced DBS via the government website here.

We strongly encourage everyone who requires a DBS to work to register it online, so that you do not have to pay for a new one annually.

If your current DBS is not registered online, you will need a new one to be issued before starting work. Please inform us if you require a new DBS and the link to apply for a DBS will be sent to you.
You can check the progress of your application by entered your DBS applicant form reference here.

Your DBS must include all the names on your passport or birth certificate, including any middle names.

When your DBS is issued you have 14 days to register your DBS online with the DBS update service.

Register your DBS with the update service and enter the details requested.

If your DBS has not been issued, as you are in the process of getting your enhanced DBS check, you will need your application reference number (called the ‘form ref’) on your application form.

This will cost £13 per year and can be paid with a debit or credit care (there is no charge if you are a volunteer).

Once registered you will receive a unique C code, this is unique to you and is required to renew your DBS annually.

This applies to the rates of pay and holiday pay.
